Caja Del Rio Horse Endurance Race

Sep 4, 2007

AI's new logger board was tested at the Caja del Rio Endurance Race, an endurance horse race held Aug 18, 2007 just Northwest of Santa Fe, NM. The logger board was brought along in a backpack, recording GPS tracks, g-forces on the rider, elevation profile, and temperature. Furthermore, a wireless sensor was placed on the saddle to record the g-forces on the horse.

Data from the logger board is loaded into the graphing application, that provides the ability to view various time-aligned sensor readings down to the millisecond. Below is a screenshot of the graphing software that comes with the logger board loaded with the first half of the horse race.

Here's a screenshot of a portion of the generated Google Earth track, or you can view the file yourself in Google Earth by clicking here. This track is colored by speed (mph), with blue indicating slower speed, and red being the fastest speed. Then the g-forces felt by the rider are depicted by varying the track's distance from the ground. Smoother sections are lower to the ground, and rougher sections are higher from the ground.
